Wall of Remembrance

WALL OF REMEMBRANCE

In Agadir, architectural heritage is concentrated in the city centre between Avenue Hassan II and Avenue Moulay Abdellah.
The Wall of Remembrance is dedicated to the victims of the earthquake of 1960. This monument, which extends over four or five meters, is a concrete wall decorated with Arabic calligraphy.
It was designed by the architect Verdugo. On it can be read the famous words of King Mohamed V after the earthquake: "If fate has decided the destruction of Agadir, its reconstruction depends on our faith and our will."
King Mohamed V did not want us to forget our past, which is why he built this wall to remind us forever of what had happened.
It also recalls the challenge of rebuilding Agadir.
