THE TAOURIRT KASBAH
The Taourirt Kasbah was built in the 17th century by the Glaoui tribe. It is famous for its antiquity as it was one of the first great Berber pieces of architectures to be constructed.
The Kasbah was long the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech, a powerful dignitary of the Moroccan nobility.
Tourists can observe the external architecture of the monument which has the look of a castle of sand: walls of a bronzed red rising towards the sky and crenelated towers at the various corners of the Kasbah.
For a small fee, it and the medina can be visited.
It’s a must see. Inside is the interior layout of this richly decorated building: the dining room, living spaces, bedrooms etc. An important attraction listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
